Going on with the SEO practices for a substantial amount of time, people build up certain habits. Most of the time, they are out of necessity or just for the sake of convenience. Whatever it be, it affects the way we perform SEO practices on the clients’ websites. The worst part of this scenario is that we end up forming certain habits that are neither good for you nor your client.
So here I am with 10 most prevalent bad habits that SEO experts end up developing and thereby harm their capabilities to take care of the clients’ projects.
1. Start without a plan
Whenever you go for an internet marketing, planning is necessary. Make sure you never go with an SEO tactic unless you have made a plan. You must have clear goals and a strategy to know how you will reach there. Without that, all your hardwork will go in vain.
2. Improper use of keywords
Either using a wrong keyword or stuffing too many keywords can land you in trouble. So make it a habit to do a proper keyword search before you go with the optimization process. With a number of tools available in the market to search the right keywords, you can easily accomplish your task. Once you have the keywords, put them to work.
3. You never go for signed in search
As an SEO analyst, we are taught to keep personalization to a minimum when working on client’s websites. It helps to know the search engine strength of the site. But then, it also hides important information like the average search experience of your users. With more number of potential customers making use of the personalization it is important to get the SERP variations that your visitors face to build up a strong online marketing strategy.
4. Using poor content
Quality content is very much important for SEO. For a blog, it may seem that quantity of content is important, but, take it a point that quality matters too. Make sure that your content is not just a bunch of words stuffed with keywords but, well-written and informative. With search engines getting smarter day by day, finding a low-quality content is not that tough.
Again, make sure that you don’t put a duplicate content on the site or rewrite one of your content again. You will be easily caught by the search engine filters.
5. Going for paid links
There was a time when the quantity of links mattered. So simply have more links and rank better. Things have now changed with time and you need to earn your links. The best way to do this is by offering your users with quality content that can be useful to them. So instead of buying links do a bit hardwork and you will see the results.
6. So many press releases
Many companies submit a press release even for the tiniest thing. But does it really make the news or you simply do this for some links? What will happen if all the companies out there on the internet come up with press release even for silly things? They will all go as spam, right? So only make an announcement when you have something solid to deliver.
7. Anchor text linking
Optimizing the links used to improve the campaigns of SEO experts in the past. In this old-school way, links were attached to anchor texts which were clickable on the websites and kept for ranking purpose. Google has turned smart and now it has easily found this practice and started penalizing the optimized links. This does not mean that you cannot make use of the anchor texts. Of course, you can but, make sure to go for the variations.
8. Check your rankings daily
A site’s ranking directly shows the success of the SEO campaigns carried out by you. So if you are not alert about the ranking of your client’s site, you may end up in trouble. Again, monitoring the rankings on the daily basis can make you paranoid and put you in trouble. This can lead to the change in SEO tactics and unexpected negative reactions. So don’t get swept away by the dips in ranking rather follow long term best SEO practices.
9. Implementing new enhancements without a second thought
Ranking the client’s website on search engines is the main goal of any SEO practitioner. Keeping that in mind, be sure to make enhancements that can add value to the website and coordinate with the business goal of your client. Everything should work together smoothly and the new enhancement should turn leads to customers. Most of the time, it fails to happen as the new enhancement is added without a second thought. So instead of helping the website, they end up affecting the rankings the negative way.
10. Visiting websites daily
Seeing the same website daily will not bring out the mistakes to your eyes. It will not help you to optimize the website. So take your time and come back to the website after a few days and get a fresh look of the things. This way you will be able to get a better picture of the client’s website and know how tactics have worked.
